How To Fix Palm Pre's "Error Sending Mail" Problem
Updated: January 30th, 2013
The Problem
My fiancée Emilie has had her Palm Pre for about 2 weeks now, and one specific problem that started showing up last week has been incredibly annoying, causing us all kinds of trouble.
After Emilie got the phone, she added 3 email accounts – Gmail, Hotmail, and Yahoo. One day, after sending an email through the Pre, a popup showed up that said "Error sending" followed by the subject of that specific email. Swiping the error away didn't help – it just came back 5 minutes later. In fact, it has been coming back every 5 minutes of every day since, lighting up the screen each time. Thus, not only it was annoying, but it was running down …
Random Questions and Thoughts. Password Protected Garage Door Remotes, Twitter Security, MUNI Drivers, Burgers, etc
Updated: July 1st, 2010
From time to time my, still curious, mind accumulates a variety of questions and concerns which it has to spill onto the pages of this blog. How random are these? Pretty damn random, and I need to see some answers, quick. Oh, and I’m deliberately not searching Google, as I want to facilitate discussion. What fun would it be if I just looked up all these?
Password Protected Garage Door Remotes
As a paranoid person and a recent homeowner, I started to wonder how safe I actually am in my house. Consider this likely scenario that nobody seems to be concerned with:
I park my car outside for one night and don’t take out my portable garage door remote, the

Crash is one of the new shows I’m into and Panic is one of the most likeable and original characters on the show. I really think he’s going to be back after this show – it’s his breakthrough performance.
So, in, I think, episode 4 Panic (Jocko’s character) goes to the studio and raps for the first time. What comes out is quite amazing, I recommend you watch that episode for a more complete experience. Otherwise, proceed to the MP3 that I got directly off Jocko’s myspace page.
You can play it right on this page (Edit: download link removed, per Jocko's request in the comments) or support Jocko by buying his album off Amazon for only $0.99 …
As half of the world population already knows, the MySQL conference is coming in less than 3 weeks. Since this event only happens once a year, lasts only 4 days, and costs more than a Russian mail-order bride, I'd really like to get the most out of it. Considering that the schedule is completely packed, with 8 (!!) events going on in parallel, I imagine things can get a little frantic. Additionally, I've never been to a conference of such size before and I'm not sure what to expect.
So… I'm contemplating:
MySQL Conference 2008
Updated: March 26th, 2008
April 14-17th is going to be an exciting time. Why? Because the 2008 MySQL Conference and Expo is going to be held in Santa Clara, CA. Who would want to miss out on a chance to lurk around, let alone talk to, some of the smartest people in the MySQL world? Well, those who don't have at least $1000+, of course. A 3 day pass to the conference without tutorials costs a whopping $1199. A full pass would dry up your pockets $1499.
Well, "good news everyone". Thanks to Sheeri Cabral of The Pythian Group, PlanetMySQL.org, Jeremy, and, most importantly, LinuxQuestions.org, I am now in possession of a 3-day conference pass!! I'm incredibly excited that I …

If you haven't heard yet, there's a cool useful little device that you can buy for about $20, called the Kill-A-Watt. You plug it into the power outlet, then plug something into it and observe various fun facts about the plugged in device, such as the power consumption, voltage, amperage, etc. I started plugging things in and recording power consumption that you can see below. Here are the results I got so far (updated often):
- Vizio P50 HDTV 50" plasma
- standby: 0-1W
- on – perfect white screen: 450W (OUCH!)
- on – bright screen: 350-430W

- on – dark scenes: 200-250W
- on – perfect black screen: 185W

Beer Car Broken Into. Again. 2nd Time In 2 Weeks.
The official car of the Beer Planet got pwned today, even though it was parked in direct light at Milla's house with a surveillance camera pointed a few feet away. I'm now 1 window, radar detector, and ipod poorer.
Thanks for stealing my GPS charger, you asshole, after not taking the GPS itself, I'm sure you will find great use for it. I don't keep the GPS in my car, so if you ever want to break in again based solely on the GPS charger attached to the windshield, just don't. Don't waste your time.

Update: And I'm back!
I'm finally done here and I'm coming back to the States. Can't wait.
I've had some great times here with the guys at Blinkx as well as Autonomy at work, local pubs, and restaurants. I'm looking forward to seeing Matt, Sergio, and Andy who are going to the US for a month or two.
That is all for now, the taxi is picking me up at 6:30am, so I am pulling an all-nighter until then. See you all in California. …

So a couple of days ago I finally visited London. The train from Cambridge takes about 1h15m, and the roundtrip ticket only costs 13 pounds due to some promotion. I ended up walking around a lot and taking the hop on – hop off tour bus. One day is obviously not enough to see all of London but it allowed me to see lots of famous things without entering them.
Here are the pictures: 2006.07.08 London.

7/3: Thought of the day: Cambridge = Davis in the 16th century. Same amount of bikes but instead of dusty streets, Cambridge has medieval castles. For example:

7/2: So my 2nd week started today, and I finally decided to get my butt out of bed and go explore Cambridge. I got up at the crack of noon and took a taxi downtown where I went on a guided tour around a couple of colleges as well as the punt tour of the river Cam (that's what Cambridge derives its name from). I also walked around town and visited souvenier shops. The 2 hour walk home was pleasantly tiring.
Finally, here are some pictures …

Edit 7/1: And this is what happens during England national team soccer games in UK (I can't imagine what the finals would be like).
Edit 6/30: Just came back from the pub after watching the UKR-ITA game and hanging with the guys. Very upsetting game, horrible performance by the Ukraine, although I wasn't expecting anything good to come out of it anyway. On a brighter note, the weekend is finally here! Sleep time…..
Edit 6/29: I'm awake at 3am because some idiots outside the hotel are screaming their heads off, and one is running around yelling "Punch me in the face, punch me in the #$#%%#@#@ face!!". I truly, truly wish he gets what he wants.
The past 2 days …
